Thursday
I walked another 30 minutes yesterday! It’s not much, but it’s a start and it’s amazing how good you feel after you exercise. I had forgotten about that! I just feel more positive and happy and I have more energy for the rest of the day, plus I’ve slept better at night.
But it was so cold yesterday. I must be really determined this time because normally I would have taken one step outside and then come right back in. It wasn’t too bad once you got moving and got the blood circulating, but the wind was really strong and my face was about frozen by the time I finished up. Thankfully the forecast is for temperatures in the 60F’s starting tomorrow, so I should have beautiful weather for walking through early next week.
We’re one day closer to the weekend! Have a great Thursday!

Who says you're too old for an Easter dress?
I found my Easter dress! Yes, I'm almost 28 years old, but I still love getting something special and new for that very special day in spring. No more patient leather shoes or matching gloves, though!
Her
e it is: Here are two other spring fashion finds that I have on my list:

I like this one because it has 3/4 sleeves, so I won't freeze at work in the summer.

Easter Menu
Easter Menus
Did ya’ll realize that Easter is less than 4 weeks away? As of right now, my family is coming up for dinner and to spend the afternoon (first time ever!) and I’m working on our menu. Of course, we have ham. That’s the one constant. I like to play around with different side dishes and here’s what I have right now:
Citrus Glazed Ham
Twice Baked Potato Casserole
Green Peas
Salad
Deviled Eggs
Rolls
Carrot Cake
Sweet Tea (is there any other kind?)
Lemonade
I’m really looking forward to my family coming. Now I need to figure out the centerpiece. Our dining room table isn’t big enough for everyone, so I’m getting a banquet table from DH’s work and moving our table into the spare room. I think with a big, flowy tablecloth it will work out just fine. Hopefully we’ll have our new furniture in time for the next big family gathering.
Here’s the Citrus Glazed Ham recipe. I’ve made it the past few Easters for us and we love it.
Citrus-Glazed Ham
Prep: 10 min.; Bake: 2 hrs., 30 min.; Stand: 15 min.
1 (6- to 7-lb.) fully cooked, bone-in ham
30 to 32 whole cloves
1 (10-oz.) bottle orange juice-flavored soft drink
1 1/4 cups orange marmalade
1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup Dijon mustard
Garnishes: apple slices, orange slices, orange rind, salad greens
1. Remove skin from ham, and trim fat to 1/4-inch thickness. Make 1/4-inch-deep cuts in a diamond pattern, and insert cloves at 1-inch intervals. Place ham in an aluminum foil-lined 13- x 9-inch pan.
2. Stir together soft drink and next 3 ingredients until smooth. Pour mixture evenly over ham.
3. Bake at 350° on lower oven rack 2 hours and 30 minutes, basting with pan juices every 20 minutes. Remove ham; let stand 15 minutes before serving. Garnish, if desired.
Note: For testing purposes only, we used Orangina Sparkling Citrus Beverage.
Yield: Makes 12 to 14 servings

Getting in shape, one step at a time
Happy Monday! I started my walking today and did 25 minutes at lunch. I'm so proud of myself! I know it's not much, but at least it's a start. Tomorrow I'll do my pilates dvd (thanks for the tip, Paula!) and walk again on Wednesday.
Here's a recipe for ya'll. I made this last night with only a few changes. I used whole wheat pasta and regular fresh mushrooms (I couldn't find shitakes at the store). I also doubled the recipe so we would have leftovers to take to work. Enjoy!
Teriyaki Pork and Vegetables with Noodles
Ingredients
8 ounces uncooked spaghetti
4 green onions
1 tablespoon dark sesame oil
1 cup thinly sliced red bell pepper
3 (4-ounce) boneless center-cut loin pork chops (about 1/2 inch thick), cut into 1/4-inch strips 1 (3 1/2-ounce) package shiitake mushrooms, sliced
1/3 cup low-sodium teriyaki sauce
4 teaspoons chili garlic sauce (such as Lee Kum Kee)
Preparation
Cook pasta according to package directions, omitting salt and fat. Drain, reserving 1/4 cup cooking liquid; keep warm.
Remove green tops from green onions; thinly slice, and set aside. Mince white portions of green onions; set aside.
Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add minced green onions, bell pepper, pork, and mushrooms; sauté 3 minutes or until pork is browned. Combine reserved 1/4 cup cooking liquid, teriyaki sauce, and chili garlic sauce in a small bowl, stirring with a whisk. Add pasta and teriyaki sauce mixture to pan; toss well to coat. Stir in sliced green onion tops.
Yield
4 servings (serving size: about 1 3/4 cups)

Let's get physical!
On the heels of my girl scout cookie post, spring is around the corner and I have some toning up to do. I haven’t done anything remotely physical lately, save that one evening I pulled out the pilates dvd. I do best with the structure of going to the gym, but right now I just don’t have the time to devote to it. Between DH’s work schedule and activities we have on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, I would have to cram all of my exercising into the weekend and I don’t think that’s the best way of doing it. So a gym membership would likely be a waste of money.
The way I lost all of my baby weight was walking. Brady and I would sometimes go on two walks a day during the four months after his birth. I love to walk, but again I’m running into the same problem with scheduling. The few nights I could do it after dinner, it’s dark. At least that problem is quickly going away with the days getting longer.
So I was whining about all of this to my co-worker and his suggestion was to walk during lunch in the Garden Ridge parking lot. It’s right by my work and not a lot of traffic but not totally abandoned either. Even if I did get a little sweaty, I could just freshen up in the restroom. So………….I’m going to give it a try. It would be an ideal way to get my exercise in and still be able to do all of the other things on my agenda. Plus, I could still get up early and do my pilates dvd or my hand weights. It would also keep me from going out to eat for lunch! Get in shape + save money = happy!
The weather is supposed to be nicer next week, so I’m going to start on Monday. I really hope this works, because I’d love to be in killer shape this spring and summer for once. Wish me luck!

Lemonades
Wow, two posts in one day! I don't think I've ever done that.
Don't forget it's Girl Scout Cookie time! I was reminded Saturday when I was driving down one of the busiest roads in town and saw a girl on the sidewalk dressed up as a cookie. Really, don't girl scout cookies basically sell themselves? Is it really necessary to dress your child up as a cookie?
Anyway, I bought our caramel de-lites (for DH), thin mints (because you just have to) and my absolute new favorites - lemonades. You seriously have to try them. They're the best things ever. I think I'll have to pick up a few more boxes to stash away in the freezer.

Praying A-Z
Tuesday nights are my Bible study night and yesterday I really wasn’t feeling like going. I was so tired and worn out and wanted nothing more than to go home and jump in my pj’s. By the end of the work day, I was feeling a little better so I went on and boy, am I glad I did! I got the biggest blessing out of last night’s session.
The past week’s homework (we’re doing Beth Moore’s “A Woman’s Heart” study) focused a lot on prayer and that’s what we discussed last night. Now I’ve always prayed. I pray in the morning and I pray in the evening and throughout the day, but lately I’ve felt like I just mostly repeat the same things over and over again. I’ve got my list of things to pray for – my family, my church, my friends, our health, our jobs, our future, Brady’s future, my MOPS moms, etc.- and I just get into saying the same things. Does anyone else have this problem? I thank God for all of the regular things, but again, I feel like I’m just going through my list.
So our leader, Joyce, told us a little bit about her own personal prayer time and she has this thing she does in the mornings. She praises God through the alphabet. A-Z, she praises God for something beginning with that letter. A – He’s almighty and amazing, B- He’s beautiful and he blesses us, C- He’s compassionate and caring, and so on. I tried it this morning and it was amazing. You can also use the letters of your child’s name or something like that. It just really helps you to focus on how great and wonderful God is.
We also talked about how God really wants to talk to us, just like how we’d have a conversation with a friend. A friend wouldn’t want us to repeat the same thing every time we talked! So I’m going to try to institute some of that into my prayer time, as well. I really feel like this is going to be a big step in my relationship with God.
I’m so glad I went last night! Happy Wednesday!

Tuesday!
We had a MOPS girl’s night out last night at Chili’s. It was a lot of fun and so nice to see everyone outside of the structure of our regular meetings. We’re hoping we can make this a regular event. Next month – Thai food!
I was planning on taking some pictures of our get-together and posting them and I even remembered to take the camera, but not a picture was taken. Don’t you hate when you do that? But one of my new goals is to get more pictures on my blog. I promise!
It’s been a quiet day at work (obviously). I did run to Target for some laundry detergent and I’ve written a few cards to send out. Do you send thank you notes after you’ve been to someone’s house for dinner or just a simple get-together? We had dinner at Mike and Ashley’s house for the first time this past weekend and I’m sending them off a little note of appreciation. I just love sending people cards for any reason at all. Hallmark loves me!

The Green Monster
The green monster has been lurking around my house the past few days. No, not the one from Fenway Park in Boston. The green monster that makes you start thinking how you wish your life was different, how your house should be bigger or your car should be newer or your clothes should be trendier. I’ve been sitting around wishing that we made more money so that we could take vacations or buy every little thing our hear desires.
The monster creeped in this weekend after we visited with some friends at their new house. I want a new house with it’s shiny floors and stainless steel appliances. Yes, I’m very happy for my friends, but I want one, too! And then we went to another friend’s house for a party and I realized that we had the only little car in the driveway full of SUV’s and minivans (not that I want a minivan, but still). I want an SUV, too! Isn’t it funny how easily the monster finds its way in the door?
So last night I had to sit down and clear my mind and focus on all the things God has blessed us with. We have so much more than we need. When you look at Boomama’s blog and see those children in Africa who live with 5 other people in a one-room shack, you realize how much you have. I’m so blessed that I have a roof and clothes and food and gas for my car. And I have a healthy family and we have lots of love in our home.
Still, I do want some of those things on my list. It’s not bad to have goals and dreams, but we have to keep it all in perspective. When it’s all said and done, we can’t take any of that with us. So my prayer today is that I do keep things in perspective and I never take for granted all the blessings in my life.
Hopefully soon the only green monster in my life will be the one in Boston!

Finally Friday!
Wow, is it Friday already? This week has flown by! Of course, I was home sick on Wednesday, so that might have helped a little bit. I’m still stuffy and congested, but considerably better than I was.
I hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day. Ours was quiet, but that was fine with me. We had clams (for DH) and shrimp (for me) and heart-shaped PB&J for Brady. After he went to bed, we watched our latest episode of Alias. Like I said, it was quiet but good!
Big plans for the weekend? We are super busy Saturday and Sunday. Tonight we’re just staying in and I’ll probably catch up on housework that has been ignored all week while I was sick. Thank goodness DH doesn’t mind doing the laundry, otherwise I’d have a mountain of that to deal with, too! Tomorrow morning I have a hair appointment and tomorrow evening we’re going to Mike and Ashley’s house for dinner. They’re the first couple we became friends with after we started going to our church. It should be a fun evening. Sunday will be Sunday School and church and then we’re having a Sunday School get-together at Raji and Susan’s house after the evening service. I need to make a dessert to take to that. If the weather is nice, we’ll probably take Brady to the park Sunday afternoon.
As for my hair appointment, I’m getting the urge to do something different. If you’ve read my blog for a little while, you know I went back to my “natural” color this past fall. I like it, but it needs a little something. I’ll probably just get some highlights added in. Who knows! I’ll let you know on Monday what happened.
Have a fabulous weekend!

Happy Monday!
Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. The weather here was fabulous, so I hope yours was, too.
I made great progress on Brady’s spring/summer wardrobe. Down here in the south, we start wearing spring clothes in March, so I don’t have much time. I visited my favorite consignment store Saturday morning and got 6 shirts and 2 pairs of shorts for $34. This store has brand names in great shape. Everything I got was Gap, Gymboree or Old Navy and looked like it had never been worn. Oh, and one brand I didn’t know of but looked fine. Yesterday I went to Gymboree and got Brady’s Easter outfit:

It was a little more than $34, but I didn’t have to buy the khaki pants because Brady already has a pair. I also got him a cute little polo shirt.
Brady also made the move from his convertible car seat to a new booster-style car seat. It still has the 5-point harness system, but looks more like a booster. It’s funny how big he looked in his old one and now he looks little again. This one should last until he moves to the official booster when he’s 4 or 5.
So apparently it was “Spend Money On Brady Weekend.” I don’t mind. He’s worth it!Have a great week!

One week and counting
Valentine’s Day is a week away! I’m getting a copy of Marie Antoinette with Kirsten Dunst as my gift. My sweetie is getting a subscription to a magazine that he likes and Brady is getting a Pirates of the Caribbean dress-up kit. He loves Capt. Jack, so now he’ll have his own little sword. I’m sure the decision to purchase this will come back to haunt me someday soon. If you hear of a 27 year old mom is SC being stabbed by her 2 year old with a Capt. Jack plastic sword, you’ll know it was me.
Here are some cute desserts I found:

Storms in Tennessee and Mississippi
Can I ask you all to say some prayers for the victims of the tornadoes that came through Tennessee and Mississippi last night? Most of you know that I’m from Memphis and this has really hit me hard. Right now we’re in the process of trying to get in touch with our friends and making sure that everyone is alright.
As I’ve been reading the news reports, I’ve been trying to figure out where there was damage. The Hickory Ridge Mall lost part of it’s roof and three people died in a nearby office building. The parents of a friend of mine live very near there. A tornado touched down in Southaven, MS, close to the neighborhood of another friend. And yet another tornado hit Arlington, where my best friend lives. As of right now I haven’t heard from any of them.
The death toll for the Mid-South area is around 31 people as of this morning. Please say some prayers for these people and the ones they leave behind.

Happy Friday!
Edited to say: We've decided to scrap the movie idea tomorrow night. We'll just go to dinner and probably hang out in Barnes and Noble. What can I say? We're cheap dates!
I always look forward to the weekends. I know you’re not supposed to wish your life away, but I’ve always looked at Friday as the light at the end of the tunnel. Even if you don’t have something fun and exiting planned, you can still enjoy the fact that you don’t necessarily have to be up at the crack of dawn those two days. Hopefully.
This weekend is busy, but good busy. Tonight is “movie in night.” I’m making lasagna and we’re staying in and watching either “Waitress” or our next disc of “Alias.”

Tomorrow we’re taking Brady to the zoo since the weather is supposed to be nice. DH has a yearly clearance sale at his game shop that he wants to check out and Brady and I will be making our cookies. Tomorrow night is Date Night, so we’ll go out for dinner and possibly a movie. I’d like to see “Juno” and “National Treasure II” is still out as well.

Sunday is Sunday School and church. Then, of course, the Super Bowl. Go Patriots!
As of right now there aren’t any parties to go to, so we’ll just party at our own house. We’re having chili and I’ll come up with some sort of fun snack to go with our cookies. Maybe 7-layer dip.
Have a great week!

Sunday is Sunday School and church. Then, of course, the Super Bowl. Go Patriots!
As of right now there aren’t any parties to go to, so we’ll just party at our own house. We’re having chili and I’ll come up with some sort of fun snack to go with our cookies. Maybe 7-layer dip.Have a great week!
